Spesies yang dapat didengar/audible species:
You are listening to the sounds of Rungan Forest during early afternoon. The dominate species you are hearing are …..cicadas/crickets….
In fact, crickets are among the loudest vocalizing species. When you hear the sound of crickets, it is the males trying to attract females by rubbing their wings or legs together, depending on the species. Their wings or legs are serrated, like a small row of teeth.
Although crickets can sound so loud to our ears, some of their frequencies and vibrations are beyond human capacity. What you hear with your human ears is only one type of sonic perception among countless others.
Crickets’ audible sense is located in a drum-like organ on their front legs; grasshoppers hear through membranes on their abdomens; and many flies hear through a sensor in their antennae. Humans can sense vibrations on the skin, but they are quiet blurry sensations compared to the very nuanced body hearing experience of insects.
When we imagine how these species might physically feel as they perceive and process the same sound we hear, it seems almost surreal to describe it all with the same word “hearing”.
