Between midnight until the first gibbons start their calls at around 4.30, the sonic atmosphere in the forest is maybe the most subtle in the entire circadian cycle. The high frequency of the crickets are the dominating sound, shaped by continuous, repetitive patterns.
While we, the team of Points of Listening, were staying in the forest of Rungan , Ulin and Gunung Lumut for several days, we felt more and more in tune with the rhythms of the countless species we were listening to.
We started to wonder, how the forest and its inhabitants are sensing us while we are there. Are we disturbing? Do we eventually become part of the forest? When we connect with these rhythms, are we also connecting with our ancestral roots? Can the complex chorus of forests be considered a part of our collective body memory? And what does the sound of a forest reveal about our human existence?
What are your thoughts and feelings at the end of this sound walk?
Do you feel that listening to the sounds of these forests creates a shifts in your sense of hearing and the sense of yourself?
